A new milestone in human exploration of the mysteries of the universe

At 20:20 on December 25,2021,Beijing time, the Ariane 5 rocket carrying the James Webb Space Telescope(JWST)lifted off from the kuru space launch center in French Guiana. The Weber telescope will reach the solar terrestrial Lagrange L2 point, which is 1.5 million kilometers away from the earth, through a flight of about one month.
As the"successor"of the famous Hubble Space Telescope(HST),the Weber Space Telescope has been placed high hopes by mankind-"it is the largest, most complex, most powerful and most imaginative space telescope ever manufactured by mankind".Since the Hubble telescope was launched in 1990,the astronomical data it has observed and the scientific research results based on it have been massive and subversive. Before the launch of the Hubble Space Telescope, people never imagined that a space telescope could continuously refresh the human understanding of the universe for decades.
Through the Hubble telescope, scientific researchers have observed the"infant"galaxy, which is only 400 million years old,and explored the laws of the birth of the universe;Through the magnificent and colorful pictures of the universe and galaxies taken by the Hubble telescope, ordinary people feel the smallness of the earth in the vast universe, and inspire their awe of the deep space and their interest in astronomy. However,Hubble's infrared band observation is very limited. To explore the origin of the universe,we need a telescope that can observe the infrared band and has high resolution.Weber telescope came into being. Therefore, for the most powerful Weber telescope in history, people are looking forward to whether it can help us see the ultimate mystery of the universe:who are we?Where do you come from?Where are you going?
Human beings are just atoms composed of a bunch of particles, and in the universe, they are just a tiny particle of dust.Because it is too small, human beings have never stopped fantasizing about the vast universe, and the space telescope is the best tool for human beings to explore the universe. The illusion of the universe is actually related to the future destiny of human society. In addition to the scientific community, for decades, all walks of life, including literature, film and art, have been asking questions about the universe in their own ways.
Therefore, although the Weber telescope has encountered various technical and financial problems since its establishment in 1996,the project has never been aborted.Twenty countries have invested more than US$10 billion over the past 25 years, and human investment in the Weber telescope is rare.As Cicero said,if a person can meditate on things in the sky,his words and thoughts will be more noble when he faces things in the world.
The launch of the Weber telescope does not represent the final victory of this exploration.About 13 days after the launch, the Weber telescope can be fully deployed and completed in orbit deployment.Subsequently, the overall commissioning period will take at least 6 months.During this period, the Weber telescope may still encounter various problems. The Hubble telescope has been in orbit for more than 30 years and has been repaired and upgraded by astronauts for many times. However, the Weber telescope is 1.5 million kilometers away from the earth and cannot be reached by manned spacecraft. If the problems can not be solved remotely,it may mean that the huge payments made by all mankind in decades will be wasted.
Whatever the outcome,it's worth it.Human development cannot stop.To understand the natural law of human development,we should learn about the universe in which the earth is located with the help of rapid scientific and technological progress. To understand the universe is to understand ourselves. The deepening of our understanding of the universe will not only expand our understanding of the material world, but also affect our spiritual world, which is more beneficial to the development of human society.
